Juaso (Ash), Jan. 23, GNA - A 32-year-old farmer's quest to satisfy his appetite for dog meat has led to his incarceration for 12 months after stealing and preparing soup with a friend's dog at Ananekrom, near Agogo in the Asante Akim North municipality.

Samuel Kumderiyi Tinebe, who could not raise a fine of GH=A2240, will serve the 12-month imprisonment option after pleading guilty to one count of stealing.

Police Detective Inspector Mike Fritz Bekoe, had told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that Madam Paulina Kyei owned a cottage at Ananekrom where she kept an Alsatian dog in the care of one Isaac. The prosecution said Tinebe who also lived at Dukusen, a nearby community was a friend to Isaac and paid him regular visits thus becoming used to the dog.

Early this year Isaac went on a journey, compelling Madam Kyei to take care of the dog herself. On January 14, this year Madam Kyei returned from farm but could not find the dog.

When she was informed by neighbours that Tinebe had taken the dog home the previous day she traced him to his cottage at Dukusen. He denied knowledge about the dog's whereabouts initially, but later admitted stealing it and even showed Madam Kyei a pot of soup, which he had prepared with the dog's meat. Tinebe pleaded with Madam Kyei to settle the matter at home but she refused and handed him over to the police, the prosecution added.
