Noella Wiyaala, known in showbiz as Wiyaala, is a Ghanaian singer and songwriter who hails from Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
Apart from singing in different languages to portray to Ghanaians the rich culture of her people, what Wiyaala is also noted for is representing the culture of her people through her dressing.
“The Rock My Body” singer is always seen performing in an outstanding dress that indeed rocks out the best in her with respect to the culture of her hometown.
Wiyaala, who won the 2012 Vodafone ICONS Mixed Edition contest, explained that it is important for everyone to bring out the best by showcasing the wonderful things in his or her hometown; thereby making others to recognize and respect the culture of the people.
“If I dress or copy what everybody else is doing in the entertainment industry, I will not be seen or recognized especially where I am coming from, but if you speak your language or dress in a way to depict where you are coming, it makes you who you are and stand out as the best,” she explained this in an interview with Anita Erskine on the One Show.
Noella Wiyaala is a graduate of the Takoradi Polytechnic and studied Art and Design.
