Father clubs son to death over habitual drunkenness

Ejisu (Ash), July 7, GNA - A 53-year old man, Abaga Saah, who allegedly got fed up with the incessant drinking habit of his 33-year old son, Kofi Saah and clubbed him to death with the assistance of his second son, was remanded in prison by the Ejisu Magistrate court. Meanwhile, the Ejisu police has mounted a manhunt for the second son, Kofi Asante, now on the run.

The plea of Abaga Saah, was not taken and he will re-appear on July 19.

Presenting the facts of the case to the court, presided over by Mrs Joyce Bamfo, Chief Inspector E.T. Ankrah, said the accused persons and the deceased all lived in the same house at Ejisu Zongo He said on June 29, the accused persons were said to have brutally assaulted the deceased when he was drunk. Not satisfied with the first beating, the pair continued the battering, this time with clubs till the deceased became unconscious and died.

Inspector Ankrah said the accused persons then conspired to secretly bury him, but upon a tip-off the police suddenly swooped on them in the room where the remains of the deceased had been kept. Kofi Asante the accomplice managed to outsmart the police and bolted while his father was arrested.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Komfo anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for autopsy.
