Koforidua, July 28, GNA - A Koforidua Magistrate's Court has remanded in prison custody Julius Bawu, 39, Unemployed, for allegedly defiling his 13 year-old daughter. His plea was not taken and would reappear before a Circuit Court on July 28. Information on the charge sheet said Bawu on July 14 quarrelled with his wife and chased her out of the matrimonial home with a cutlass.

The wife then left to stay with her relatives at Sorodae, in Koforidua leaving behind their three children including the victim. At the midnight of July 20, Bawu allegedly woke the victim up and wanted to defile her but she resisted. He then threatened to kill her with a knife so she yielded.

After the first incident, Bawu allegedly defiled the daughter every midnight till July 23, when the girl who could no longer bare the ordeal, reported the matter to the Head Teacher of her school, who in turn reported it to the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Police Service. Bawu was arrested and in his cautioned statement admitted the offence but blamed it on his late mother, who, he said, cursed him before she died and pleaded for forgiveness.
