Kumasi, Feb. 15, GNA - Nana Owusu, a drinking bar operator at Mbrom in Kumasi on Friday pleaded with a circuit court in Kumasi to jail his 22-year-old son again as the last resort to stop him from persistently stealing his money and threatening him with death. Kwabena Frimpong, the culprit is standing trial for stealing and threatening to kill his father.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to re-appear on February 18.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Odigya told the court that the accused who was jailed six months last year for similar offences, had not changed since his release from prison in October last year and continued to steal his father's money and threatened him with death. He said on January 20, this year, he picked a quarrel with his father without any provocation during which he threatened to kill and bury him.

Chief Inspector Odigya said the father who did not take the threat seriously, left for town and had the shock of his life on his return in the evening when he discovered that an amount of 2.4 million cedis being the sales he realised from the day's business was missing. He said when the father enquired about the money from the bar keeper, he told him that his son had taken the money and left, which prompted the father to mount an intensive search for him. During the search, the prosecutor said, Nana Owusu was told that his son was hiding at the Race Course and when he went there to arrest him, the accused who was wielding a knife threatened to kill anyone who came near him.

However, Chief Inspector Odigya said, some neighbours who accompanied Nana Owusu to the Race Course mustered courage, overpowered the accused and handed him over to the police but could not retrieve the money.
