The nominations for this years Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs)are out and as usual agitations regarding the credibility of the scheme have unfolded

According to the organizers, over 700 entries in total came in spread across the various categories and throughout the month of February, the board sat to debate and discuss all categories in order to ensure that deserving songs and artistes as stipulated by the tenets of the scheme earn their slots in the various categories.

As the then manager of legendary Traditional artiste; King Ayisoba who won the overall top award at the 2007 MTN Ghana Music Awards, I, Reagan Mends aka Online News Surgeon, have always defended the organizers of the scheme.

But with how this year’s nominations has been, i’m beginning to side with most of the scheme enthusiasts who have comprehensively questioned the credibility of the scheme.

As a plausible ‘Online News Surgeon’, I have delved into the nominations critically and sorry to say to my humane friends at Charter house (Nii Ayite Hammond and George Quaye), the board did a lousy job. They never sat to debate or discuss any of the submitted entries, they just shortlisted their favorites and gave them nominations.

80% of the songs and artistes nominated never deserved to be there. What are these songs?–I wouldn’t mention the names.

In fact, all the artistes who submitted their entries including those you’ve nominated wasted their time. You only used the submission of entries system to cover your crooked ways.

Looking at the members of the board , I’m very convinced that they cannot use less than one month to vigorously scrutinize all the 700 plus entries.I want the board to openly swear that they reviewed the entry of Nyame Akoa Malonzy of “Yesu ba” Fame.

Oh Yes,the board must swear if they truly sat, debated, discussed and ensured that deserving songs and artistes as stipulated by the rules of the scheme earned their slots as they claim.

I’m totally grieved because music is a uniter and the scheme which is supposed to unite musicians and all entertainment players is gradually dividing us.

Mark Okraku Mantey, George Quaye and Chairman for the board; Nii Ayite Hammond, you guys have done tremendously well for the industry but you are gradually loosing your credibilities–this is the time to redeem your image by openly Swearing that the board truly went through all the submitted entries.
