The Kpando District Fire Officer, Roger Ofasi, who could not look on unconcerned for a policeman to arrest his wife and therefore prevented him from exercising his authority, is standing trial at the Kpando Circuit Court.
The fire officer was alleged to have violently pulled the genital organ of the peace officer and obstructed the arrest of his wife, who, together with another woman, allegedly assaulted a teacher, Mrs Philomena Totimeh of the Anfoega Secondary School.
When Roger Ofasi, together with his wife and the third accused, was arraigned before the Kpando Circuit Court he pleaded not guilty to two other charges brought against him and the women. The charges are conspiracy to commit assault, obstructing a public officer, resisting arrest and assaulting a public officer.
While Ofasi is on a ?2 million self-cognisance bail, the other two, Comfort Tetteh-Killian and Susana Afua Ofasi, both housewives, are on ?1 million bail each with a surety to be justified.Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Joseph Elvis Agbevade of the Kpando Police said that on September 19, this year, one Benedicta Tetteh?Killian, was arrested by the Kpando Police for assaulting Mrs Totimeh.
Comfort and Susana, who were not on good terms with the complainant, planned and waylaid her on the footpath leading to the Kpando Low Cost quarters where they all reside, the prosecutor said.Philomina who was returning from church, unknowingly fell into the trap and was severely beaten by the two women.
?After a fierce struggle, Philomina managed to free herself, the prosecutor continued, and rushed to the police station to report the case. While there, Chief Inspector Agbevade said that Susana and Comfort also came to the police station.Upon seeing them, the complainant quickly identified them as her assailants and this infuriated Roger. The police attempted to arrest Comfort but Roger vigorously resisted their effort.
In the process, the prosecutor said the police reminded Roger of the gravity of his action but he would not budge. After some time the police attempted to arrest Roger for obstructing the arrest of the women but this he resisted, leading to a fierce struggle during which he pulled the male organ of one of the policemen.
The policemen had a hard time extricating their colleague from Roger?s clutches. The prosecutor said after investigations the police charged the accused with the offences and arraigned him and the other accused persons before court. They are to reappear on October 22.
