First Lady, MTV Shuga, Patrick Fynn, others win at 2018 HELEH Africa Awards

Consultant Urologist, Lawyer & Businessman Dr Ken Aboah, First Lady of Ghana H.E Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Aspen Pharmacare, Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, MTV Shuga, Patrick Fynn and many other medical professionals, institutions and initiatives were on last Saturday awarded at the 2018 Health Legendary Honours Africa (HELEH Africa) award held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra.

The award was launched in 2017 by life patron of the initiative His Royal Majesty Otomfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene amidst glitz and glamour where the deserving awardees and practitioners were decorated with premium carat gold in the golden kingdom of Ghana – Kumasi.

In his welcome address, the PRO of Media Men Ghana, organisers of the award, Mr Prince Akpah lauded the various roles being played by individuals and institutions in improving the wellbeing of Ghanaians and Africans. According to him, these individuals and institution need to be celebrated in order to encourage others.

The ceremony was graced by the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, H.E. Pedro Luis Despaigne González, Cuba’s Ambassador to Ghana, Nana Amish Damfour, Manhyia’s Rep, Dr. Max Cobbina, Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, Dr. Hafez Adam Taher, Coordinator for Cooperation with Cuba in the Ministry of Health of Ghana, coupled with performances from Sherifa Gunu & Dzidu.

Dr.Ola Orekunrin and her organisation, Flying Doctors Nigeria both received an award whiles MTV Shuga was also awarded for their immense contribution towards HIV sentitization through the use of their TV Show.

The Ambassador of Cuba, Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzálezw who received an award on behalf of the Cuban Embassy in Ghana in his words of appreciation, highlighted the historical ties of Cuba with the continent and with Ghana in particular. After presenting the members of the Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC), recently arrived in Ghana from their vacations, he reiterated Cuba's commitment to continue his collaboration in that sector.

This year’s Award was organized under the theme “Promoting total quality corporate healthcare and wellness for socio-economic enhancement through Pan-Africanism.”

The event was also used to launch the HELEH Africa Foundation, an institution which would be used to build first class first aid centers across Ghana.
