The first Volta Pork Fair and Business Summit will be held in Ho, Parks and Gardens from July 1 to 3, 2017 to whip up interest in the consumption of pork as a safe meat and to provide pig farmers with the opportunity to showcase their farm products and to network.
It is being organised by the Progressive Pig Farmers Network-Ghana (PPFF-Ghana) in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology of the Ho Technical University (HTU) and the Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI).
Mr. George Kwaku Yeboah, the Chairman of the planning committee of the event indicated to thelakenewspaper.com that the fair is aimed at unlocking the many job opportunities along the swine and pork value chain, towards reducing youth unemployment.
Apart from the cooking competition that will be contested by faculty members and seasoned chefs from the faculty of applied sciences and technology of Ho Technical University, there will be business network sessions, investment and start-up sessions and marketing and branding sessions.
Facilitators of these sessions will come from the banking, financial, investment, agricultural and veterinary sectors.
The event will also be graced by the Volta regional minister, members of parliament from the region, district chief executives, officials from the ministry of food and agriculture, food and drugs authority and the standard authority and students from the schools and colleges in the region.
Participants to the event will be treated to good borborbor music each day, beer, liquor and variety of pork dishes and free pork tasting sessions in-between the contest.
Exhibitors will include agricultural and veterinary companies at the regional and national levels.
