Aflao (V/R), July 29, GNA - Kofi Dey Ekpe, a Fisherman of Denu, is to spend eight years in prison for defiling a 13-year old girl. Ekpe, whose wife is carrying a four-month old pregnancy, pleaded not guilty before the Aflao Circuit Court on Monday.
Chief Inspector Emmanuel Oppong of the Denu Police told the court that the accused person and the victim lived in the same area at Denu. On July 2 Ekpe lured her into his house and forcibly defiled her. Chief Inspector Oppong said neighbours who saw Ekpe entering his room with the victim followed up and met the accused in the act and handed him over to the Police.
Mr Oppong told the Ghana News Agency after the sentence that this was the second time the victim had been defiled. The first incident happened in 1999 and it involved a 28-year old mason, Dick Kwesi. The case is pending at the same court.
