Sekondi, Feb 26, GNA- Isaac Asibu, a 22-year-old fisherman at Ngyeresia near Sekondi, on Thursday appeared before a Sekondi Magistrates' Court for allegedly stealing 500 meters of aluminium electricity conductor, property of the Electricity Company of Ghana ECG).
The accused, also known as Nana Essilfie pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and stealing.
The court granted him 50 million cedis bail with two sureties to re-appear on March 3, this year.
Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere said January 29, this year, the management of Phastor Limited reported power failure at the factory at Ngyeresia to the ECG and Mr. Stephen Honny, Senior Works Superintendent was assigned to go to the factory to find out the cause of the power failure.
The prosecution said during inspection, Mr. Honny detected that wires from the power station to the factory had been cut. Sergeant Okyere said that the accused was found that same day carrying a sack containing electric wires at European Beach at Ngyeresia.
He said one Ghama who is an uncle of the accused and works at ECG learnt that his nephew was involved in the theft of electricity wire at the factory and assisted the Police to arrest the accused at his hideout at Shama.
