THE NKAWKAW Community Tribunal, chaired by Mr. William Boampong, has sentenced a 19-year-old fishmonger to two years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing fish and onions from eight market women at the Nkawkaw Central Market.

The fishmonger, Yaa Asiedua, pleaded guilty to all the eight counts of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector J.P. Arthur, told the tribunal that sometime ago, the convict, who had been operating her criminal activities at the Nkawkaw and Kotoso markets, succeeded in stealing a quantity of fish and onions valued at over ?50,000 from eight market women at the Nkawkaw Central Market.

Explaining her modus operadi to the tribunal, Arthur said she politely approached the market women with the view to buying some of their items, but after collecting them without paying, left them with the owners and asked permission to go for her basket to carry them.

The prosecutor said she would then hurriedly come and carry the items away without the knowledge of the market women.

But on that fateful day luck eluded her and she was arrested in her bid to outwit another victim, the prosecutor told the tribunal..
