Ghana was well represented in the just ended National Multicultural Festival in the Australian capital territory, Canberra.

The event celebrates the diversity of Australia's rich cultural heritage and recognises that it is this diversity that makes Australia what it is.

Thousands of people from different backgrounds participated in the 3-day event showcasing their colourful costumes, traditional dances, music, culture, food and artefacts.

Ghana's stall which was not far from the main African stage was by far the busiest with the High Commissioner Nii Adjei and his staff attending to the many visitors that passed through. On display were special woven kente clothes, Ghana chocolates, Palm wine, traditional attire, bags, pieces of jewellery.

H.E Adjei said that it was a very good opportunity for Ghana to showcase its rich culture to Australians and other parts of the world.

"There is a lot of interest in Ghana's stand, particularly in our special woven kente clothes. People are getting to know Ghana more through this festival and they are getting to see that it is rich in culture and diversity but united as one people.

"We are a country in Africa that has a continuous stable change of government from one regime to the other...so Africa is looking to us; other parts of the world look to Ghana and they are always counting on us to show the way.

He added that Ghana is demonstrating to the world that it has a lot to offer and is a beacon of hope for the continent.
