Flames out Of ‘Gang Starz’

When Flames confidently climbed the stage last Sunday at TV3’s Studio B, little did they know that bringing on a new lead singer could lead to them being knocked out of the Gang Starz competition.

The group did Lucky Mensah’s popular Come Back song and everyone in the audience felt from the onset that they had really cut their coat according to their size but they had problems with the lead vocals and that affected their general performance, leading to eviction from the competition.

As usual it was a sunshine day for Pipers who have been tagged as the Boys II Men of Gang Starz. They treated the American R&B/soul vocal group’s Mama song brilliantly.

Blaze has always served studio audience with appetising performances and last Sunday’s was no different when they exhibited admirable skills with Olu Maintain’s Yahoozee.

Despite the smooth texture of the voices of the all- female group, Ggirls, they were not able to pull the crowd as they often did when they performed Never Never by Brick and Lace. Judge BB attributed it to the choice of song.

LS3, another all- female group, were totally out of their element when they tried to do Believe by Cher. They did not impress with their vocals and stage performance.

If Afro chose another Shaggy song because they escaped a bad handling of a very good raggae two Sundays ago, then things did not work for them again this time round as they performed the Jamaican reggae artiste’s Angel.

Sparx did fairly well individually when they performed Don’t Matter originally done by Akon but could not blend harmonies when they performed as a group. They were reminded by Judge BB to note that eviction was on and that there was “no pampering at this stage.”

The Shades fans in the audience roared with cheers when the group did justice to R.Kelly’s Slow Wind (Wind for me).

Da Soul also put up an impressive performance with P-square’s Do Me.

Gang Starz, the show that had lots of crticisms when it started, has been improving week after week. Groups so far evicted apart from Flames are 2Hot, 1Accord and Natives.
