Cape Coast July 25, GNA - Drama unfolded in a circuit court at Cape Coast on Tuesday, when Isaac Paitoo alias Paa Kwesi, a 21-year-old footballer broke down and wept bitterly when a fine of 4.8 million cedis was imposed on him for stealing and slaughtering two pregnant goats valued at 1.4 million cedis.
Paitoo, who pleaded guilty to stealing the two goats, would go to prison for nine months in default.
The court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah also ordered that proceeds from the sale of the carcasses should be shared between the complainants.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court that last Sunday at about 0500 hours Paitoo who was carrying a sack at the outskirts of Biriwa, stopped a vehicle and asked the driver to take him to Cape Coast.
He said the driver who suspected Paitoo to be a thief, picked him up and alerted the police when they got to the police check point at Moree.
When the police attempted to arrest him, Paitoo took to his heels, leaving the sack he was carrying in the vehicle but was chased and arrested, the prosecution said.
Chief Inspector Amonoo said when the sack was opened, two slaughtered pregnant goats were found and that the complaints, two women, later went to the police station to identify the goats as theirs.
