Aflao, July, 12, GNA - The Police at Aflao have arrested four persons for allegedly aiding Godfred Ameworkunu, a driver of 'P and B' Limited, a Takoradi based Mining firm, who had absconded with the company's vehicle, 34 million cedis, 200 Euros, three mobile phones, passports and documents to escape to the Republic of Togo.

They are Tetteh Agbenornyi, the suspect's uncle, Francis Kpogli, Afedo Dadedzi and Ebenezer Odum.

The four together with the Isuzu double cabin pickup number GR 5680 U and some document retrieved from Kpogli at Akatsi, have been despatched to the police at Tema.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Aflao on Friday, Mr Baba Moro, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in-Charge of Crime, said while on official duty to Tema on June 26, this year, Ameworkunu absconded with the vehicle, the money and the other items belonging to his employers.

He said Police traced Ameworkunu to Afife, his hometown, near Abor on the Accra-Aflao trunk road but he was said to have left for Takoradi but again left Takoradi before the Police could arrive.

Mr Moro said investigations led to the arrest of Agbenornyi, his uncle with whom Ameworkunu lodged whilst at Afife. He led the Police to Akatsi on July 8, this year to apprehend Kpogli and retrieved the items. He said further investigations revealed that Odum who was resident in Takoradi, joined Ameworkunu on his return to Afife where he and Dadedzi assisted him to escape to Togo.

Mr Moro said though Agbenornyi denied any knowledge of the whereabouts of Ameworkunu and the vehicle, Kpogli told Police during interrogation that he (Agbenornyi) led the suspect to his place at Akatsi with the vehicle.

The Police Crime Officer said investigations were continuing.
