Accra May 7, GNA- Four students have been put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly possessing firearm without authority. The court, presided over by Mrs. Jennifer Tagoe remanded them into police custody to assist in police investigations in their attempt to sell an AK 47 assault rifle with 27 rounds of ammunitions to some policemen.

They are Cornelius Kontor, Edem Makafui, Ernest Yegwo and John Arthur. Their pleas were not taken and would reappear on May 19. The case of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eric Amoako was that on May 1, this year, the police had information that someone was offering an AK 47 assault rifle with a quantity of ammunitions for sale at Lashibi, near Sakumono.

He said some policemen disguised themselves and approached Makafui as prospective buyers.

The prosecutor said after some discussion on the transactions, Makafui agreed to accept eight million cedis and led the police to Yegwo, who was keeping the rifle in his house. He said Makafui telephoned Yegwo, who arrived with Arthur and gave out the rifle to them.

The police then arrested Makafui, Yegwo and Arthur and during interrogation, Makafui mentioned Kontor as the owner of the rifle. Kontor was arrested and he mentioned Ex-Warrant Officer Class One Patrick Kontor, his father as the owner of the rifle.
