Four universities qualify for Zain Africa Challenge competition

Accra, Jan. 21, GNA - Four universities in Ghana on Monday qualified to represent the country at the Zain Africa Challenge Championship Festival competition scheduled for Uganda from February 13 to 23.

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Cape Coast (UCC), University of Development Studies (UDS) and Valley View University qualified after the National Qualifying Tournament (NQT) in Accra, Maame Dufie, Corporate Social Responsibility Executive of Zain, told the GNA on Tuesday.

Seven universities took part in the qualifying tournament. The others were the University of Ghana, Legon, University of Education, Winneba and the University of Mines and Technology.

Maame Dufie said the zain Africa Challenge was the telecommunication giant's biggest corporate social responsibility investment and it showed commitment to the education of the youth. The competition is an academic quiz programme designed for universities in eight African countries - Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone are participating for the first time.

Prizes were presented to all the teams and coaches of universities which participated in the competition. Each team from the seven universities in the competition were asked questions in several categories including African current affairs, economy, African anthropology and 20th century Egypt.
