Fredyma urges government to improve communication on creative industry support

Celebrated music producer and sound engineer, Fred Kyei Mensah, popularly known as known as Fredyma, has acknowledged the creative community's valid concerns regarding government support but notes a lack of publicity on the government's part about its initiatives for the arts sector.

Speaking with Graphic Showbiz, Fredyma pointed out that ineffective communication has hindered the government's ability to showcase its efforts.

He called on officials to better promote their successes.

Fredyma noted that the NPP government's contributions to the creative industry have been substantial, though largely perceived as limited to constructing amphitheatres and refurbishing cultural centres.

“I think the NPP government has done a lot for the creative industry but communication has not been as vibrant as expected. The focus has rather been more on the building of the theatres in all the regions which was not achieved. Only two new amphitheatres and a regional centre for culture edifices were rehabilitated.

“For instance, the Creative Arts for Change, an appendage of the NPP government through the Creative Arts Council, pushed for certain legislations to enhance our trade and the government succumbed. We are waiting for the Presidential accent to make it a law," he is quoted to have stated.

He also mentioned that, “All this is happening because successive governments have over the years shelved proposals for the laws governing our trade to be passed which has culminated in some infractions in our practices."

Furthermore, Fredyma has encouraged artistes to engage with politics, asserting that active participation in governance is essential for driving desired changes within the industry.

“I will entreat all creative people to get involved in active politics to help shape the governance of the country. It is not shameful and your talent or creativity will not be compromised. We have our classmates, friends, and acquaintances from different sectors participating in politics," he said.
