For some people, these experiences are stale and they deem it as a way that’s usually used by up-and-coming gospel singers to gain some legitimacy. Because why not? Who doesn’t feel inspired by a divine calling story?
Well, for new gospel artiste Magdalene, her divine calling story is beyond gaining legitimacy in the Ghanaian gospel scene but to strive and elevate herself to music royalty.
Growing up, Magdalene developed a keen interest in fashion and followed it up by being a stylist. And her exploits and imprints in the Ghanaian fashion industry are well documented.
Having styled top celebrities like Fuse ODG, EL, MzVee, Becca, Edem, Kidi, Kuame Eugene and many others, Magdalene Combarieu also received nominations at the 2018 Glitz Style Awards, 2018 Ghana Naija Showbiz Awards, 2018 Fashion Lifestyle Award and the 2018 Fashion Ghana Awards.
With such a blossoming career in the fashion industry, one will ask how Magdalene diverted into singing and most importantly the gospel industry?
“It wasn’t my decision. My choice was fashion and more of fashion until God came into the picture; initially, I was disobeying the call and fighting so hard to be left alone as I had a global fashion plan in the pipeline almost set to go”, she said.
“Ultimately, I started having a relationship with God and how much he loves deeply and sincerely”, she added.
Though she was fully into fashion and secular music at that time, Magdalene grew up liking some particular gospel songs.
“Growing up I loved singing gospel songs that caught my heart. Though I didn’t understand much”, she proclaimed.
“I sang along to Pastor Joe Becham’s “Ao Yesu”, Moses OK’s “Enti Mi Paa Minie”, Cindy Thompson’s “Awanwa Do”, Nii Okai’s “Moko Be” amongst others”.
In order to achieve her goal of becoming a household gospel musician in Ghana, Magdalene has released a debut single titled “I’ll Run To You”.
“I’ll Run To You” is a proclamation song about the love of Jesus and the love God has shown in her life.
“It’s also, a reminder of Jesus’ deepest, greatest love, and sacrifice by dying on the cross to save humankind”, she disclosed.
Produced by Donald, “I’ll Run To You” is a soul-winning melody that chronicles the love God has for people who were lost and have found new life in him.
Magdalene graduated from the University College of Management Studies, Ghana where she studied Human Resources. She did her Masters degree in International Public Relations and Global Communication (with a focus in Fashion) in the UK at the renowned Cardiff University.
Often times, stories like Magdalene’s usually end with such musicians reverting back into the secular world. But for Magdalene, there is no turning back. Her love for God is entrenched.
“Now, I don’t know what I will do or live without him. The thought of him leaving my side drives immense distress within me”, she said.
Magdalene was born August 23, 1987 and she is happily married with 2 adorable kids.
