Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) has donated an undisclosed amount of money to highlife legend Paapa Yankson who has been confined to bed due to an ailment.

First Vice Chairman GHAMPRO, Ahmed Banda, popularly called Bandex, who also doubles as the welfare committee chairman of the organisation, Thursday visited the ‘Okukuseku’ singer at his Dansoman residence to make the donation.

He expressed his disappointment in the musician for not informing the association about his illness at the early stage.

According to him, the welfare committee of the organisation was set up for such purposes, “so musicians should not waste time in calling on us when the need arises.”

He added that even though information about the musician’s condition got to them on Thursday morning, they saw the need to help him before things get worse, adding, “I never knew the situation was like this at all. You should have informed GHAMRO when it started because we are there for you.”

Paapa Yankson, real name Benjamin Kofi Yankson, explaining his late call on the organisation, revealed that he thought he could finance everything by himself.

He further stated that “I didn’t tell anybody because I thought people will think I want to lure you for money. Now that you have come to see my condition, you can tell others my condition because if I say it, they might not believe me.”

His son who was with him at the time of the visit received the money on his behalf and promised to take him to the hospital.

The musician thanked GHAMRO for coming to his aid even though they did not receive information about his sickness early.

Paapa Yankson is known for hit songs like ‘Show Your Love’, ‘Tena Me Kyen’, ‘Kokroko’ and many others.
