Police today arrested a Ghanaian immigrant in the vicious rape of a 19-year-old girl that occurred the night of March 31, 2001 at a motel in the Alexandria area.
Albert Mensah, 35, a sophomore at Virginia Commonwealth University, was arrested without incident detectives at an undisclosed restaurant around 11:30 this morning. He had been lured to the restaurant under the pretense of meeting the girl. He was charged with rape and held on $10,000 bond.
Mensah befriended the girl in 1999, showing an interest in her education. He bought her a computer and a television, and also paid for groceries and other personal needs.
Four times between November 2000 and March 2001, he brought her to motels in Alexandria. The girl's parents learned of the contact and, in mid-April, the girl and her parents came to Fairfax County Police with the complaint.
