GPHA security assistant remanded on defilement charge

Tema, May 20, GNA -- A 30 year old security assistant of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) who claimed to have given Fanta to a nine-year old class three pupil but did not defile her has been remanded into custody by the Tema circuit court "A".

Alex Nee-Quaye pleaded not guilty to a charge of having carnal knowledge of a nine year old girl and will reappear on June 17 2004. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court, presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on April 22, 2004, at about 4:30 pm Nee-Quaye lured the victim into his room in community five and forcibly had sex with her.

She said a report was made to the police and the accused was arrested. In his caution statement, the accused stated that he bought Fanta for the victim but never had any sexual intercourse with her.
