Accra, May 4, GNA - Mr William Zon, a staff of Ghana Telecommunications Limited on Thursday won a hundred million cedis in the first main draw of the Travel Ghana Promotion organized by the Ghana Association of Travel and Tourism Agents (GATTA).
The Travel Ghana Promotion is an activity by GATTA to increase tourists' traffic to Ghana as their contribution to the realization of one million tourists to Ghana by the end of this year.
Mr James Tagoe with ticket number 0498045 won a second prize of an Accra-London-Accra air ticket from Ghana International Airline. The Travel Ghana Promotion was launched by GATTA last year to promote safe and responsible tourism in the country. The promotion encourages Ghanaians living in Ghana and abroad to purchase a raffle ticket which is entered into a draw.
The promotion is divided into three main draws. Subsequent draws will enable participants win a Chrysler Saloon Car and finally a house to be donated by HFC Ghana Limited.
Mr Hilarious McCash Akpah, Vice President of GATTA during the draw urged Ghanaians and foreigners alike to continue patronizing the Travel Ghana Promotion.
He noted that the sector ministry's target of achieving a million tourists by the end of this year was not too far from realization but required practitioners in the tourism industry to be more creative and resilient to failures.
Mr Akpah announced that proceeds from the Travel Ghana Promotion would be used to upgrade selected tourist sites and further advocate tourism development in the country.
Mr Samuel Ocran, Deputy Managing Director of Star Assurance Company Limited, who donated the hundred million cedis to the winner, said his organization shared GATTA's objective of promoting safe and responsible tourism in the country.
"It is a way of giving back to GATTA for the support of our travel insurance policy," he said and urged GATTA to continually encourage members to help sell the travel insurance policy to Ghanaians.
