Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has called on Ghanaians to issue an unqualified apology to former President John Dramani Mahama.

In a video circulating on social media, the "Mahama Paper" hitmaker highlighted the devastating impact of economic hardship in the country during President Akufo-Addo's tenure.

He claimed that Ghanaians benefited more under the former president.

"Some of you need to go and beg Mahama because when he was in power, I used to benefit a lot. You can say that I've endorsed him, but I don’t care. When he was in power, he always wanted to meet creatives," he said.

Shatta Wale emphasised that Ghanaians have the option to choose between the former president and other candidates, suggesting that many would prefer to vote for Mahama.

"You all have options to choose, and it’s Mahama you want, but because of shame, you are protesting," he stated in pidgin.

Background:

On September 30, 2024, Shatta Wale questioned the rationale behind the #StopGalamsey protest in a post on X.

In a series of exchanges with social media users, he argued that the recent campaign against small-scale illegal mining, including the #StopGalamseyNow protests, serves as propaganda for certain individuals to achieve their goals.

The "Ayoo" hitmaker further stated that galamsey is an old practice and claimed that if its impact were as detrimental as reported, Ghana's water bodies would be in much worse condition than they currently are.
