The Electoral Committee of the Ghana Actors Guild have announced October 27, 2018 to elect its new National Executive members.
At a press briefing held at the conference room of the Copyright Office in Accra, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Togbe Xadzi II (Mr Johnny Akpakli highlighted on the road map of the election.
“The term of office of the current National leadership of the Ghana Actors’ Guild officially expires in October 2018. In view of this, as a constitutional provision, the National Electoral Committee of the Guild was commissioned on August 18, 2018 in an emergency delegate’s congress in Accra to organize elections to elect new officers.”
Members of the Electoral Committee as disclosed at the press briefing are Rev. Dan Tei-Mensah-Secretary, Hajia Kadija Mohammed-Treasurer, Madam Mariam Fynn – Member and Mr. Frank Aidam – Member.
The process, according to Togbe Xadzi II, will include the calling for nominations for the various portfolios by members of the guild in good standing on Friday, August 31, 2018 and filled forms submitted to the national secretariat by September 21, 2018.
According to the chairman, vetting and balloting of eligible candidates commences on October 1 to 5. The following executive positions are opened to contest for; President, First Vice President (reserved for Females), Second Vice President, Treasurer, Welfare Officer, National Organizer and Three Executive Members (One reserved for Females).
The Electoral Committee of the guild will introduce a new electronic voting system (evotereminder) which will be supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
They however called on their members to register and renew their membership from now through to August 31, 2018.
Candidates vying for various positions are to pay a non-refundable fees as follows;
President – GHc2,500
First Vice President – GHc 2,000
Second Vice President – GHc2,000
Treasurer – GHc1,500
Welfare Officer – GHc1,500
National Organizer – 1,500
Three Executive Members GHc1,000 each
The Ghana Actors Guild is the parent association for the welfare of actors and actresses in Ghana and has branches in the regions of the country.
