The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku has hinted that the annual Ghana carnival hosted in Accra will soon be taken to all the other regions in the country.

“Yes, it is something that we can look into post-2018 to either simultaneously do it at different regions or look at the viability of doing it at a different cultural hub like the Ashanti region adding that “it is not too ambitious but let see how the first one goes,” the Minister said.

The Minister was speaking at the launch of the 2018 edition of the Ghana Carnival and Homofest in Accra on Friday, April 20.

According to her, celebrating the carnival across the country would not be a challenge but the getting the people to own it and participating in it fully.

“We can have carnivals in all the major cities but we are just starting, let see how deepen the participation,” she noted.

Addressing the issue of open defecation in Accra, the Minister said, plans are far advanced to wage war against the menace that is affecting the tourism industry and denting the country’s image.

She reveals, “It is part of it, we are starting before June you will see some massive campaign against open defecation and during the carnival you will see arts and play to demonstrate the effect of open defecation.”
