Laundry Tips

In case you plan to follow the latest fashion trends and add trendy pieces of clothing to your collection, you have to make sure that you know how to take care of them and here’s a list of ways you can save those expensive clothes from wearing out.

Be careful with bleach

Bleach is considered a laundry staple because of its effectiveness in removing all kinds of stains. Nevertheless, if you have to wash clothes with hefty price tags, using bleach when cleaning it is a gamble, since the cleaning agent contains harmful chemicals that can make colors fade and eventually look dull. If you need to remove tough stains but can’t afford to take the risk, you can use color-safe bleach or natural bleaching agents such as lemon juice and baking soda.

When using lemon juice, just mix equal parts of lemon juice and water then rub it on the stained area for 15-30 minutes.

If you’d like to use baking soda, simply combine 4 tablespoons of baking soda with lukewarm water to form it into a paste. Apply the baking soda paste directly into the stain and leave it to dry for an hour or two before washing the garment.

Knitted clothes should be washed with caution

Knitted shirts, jackets or dresses need special care instructions since they are prone to tearing and easy stretching. Putting them together with your other clothes inside the washing machine can damage your knits. To prevent this from happening, it’s best to wash them by hand, air drying them also helps these type of fabric retain their shape.

Zip clothes before washing

Unclosed zippers can ruin your other clothes since it can get stuck to other fabrics when washed at the same time. Make sure to zip and button up clothes when washing.

White for white, red for red

Do not mix your white clothes with bright colored fashion pieces. Separating colors can reduce the risk of unwanted color transfer in case your clothes bleed.

Store your clothes properly

Not all clothes can be stored the same. While some can are fine being hung, others are best folded. For example, knitted and stretchy clothes need to be folded while dresses should be properly hung. Moreover, it is important to ensure that all clothes are properly dried before storage to avoid nasty odors from developing.

Clean clothes are always fashionable. Nevertheless, the cleaning process can be a bit tricky since it can damage your clothes when done the wrong way. Never disregard the clothing label instructions and follow the above tips if you want your newly bought clothes to last longer!
