Ghana Loves Haiti: The Tribute Concert

Ghanaians have come out in an unprecedented show of support and solidarity for those affected by the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake which hit Haiti on the 12 January 2010. In a country that is regularly a recipient of donor aid, Ghanaians of all walks of life are stepping up to the plate and “giving as good as they get”. Government, businesses, media owners, artistes and the ordinary Ghanaian citizens have been generously donating to the relief efforts mobilized in Ghana.

In an act reminiscent of the magnanimous humanitarian musical collaboration of USA for Africa’s “Heal the World” and Band Aid’s “Do they know it’s Christmas”, Ghanaian artists have pledged their support, time and creative genius to performing at the “Ghana Loves Haiti” Tribute Concert on Saturday, 06 February 2010. The concert takes place at the International Conference Centre from 19:30 and tickets are on sale for GH15.00 (Fifteen Ghana Cedis) at Joy FM, Pippa’s Gyms, Koala, Silverbird Lifestyle Store and Frankies.

The impressive concert line-up reads like the local equivalent of the Hollywood Walkway of fame and includes: R2bees, Wutah, D-Black, Papa Sly, Kwaku T, Sammy B, Mutombo, King David, Okyeame Kwame, Bradez, Yasmeen Helwani, Efya (Jane Awindor), Iwan, Kwabena Kwabena, Ohema Mercy, Oj, Irene Logan, Bertha (Stars Of The Future), Sammy B, Rough N Smooth, Nii, Echo, Wanluv And Fbs

Guest Presenters for the night include – Kwame Sefa Kayi, Ksm, Michelle Attoh, Kofi Ansah, Kkd, Kwasi Pratt Jr., Gideon Aryequaye, Miss Malaika 2009, Lydia Forson, Koofori And Abeku Santana MC: KOD

The event will be produced by Blaqkaprikorn, logistics will be supplied by and the venue has kindly been sponsored by the Ministries of Information and Foreign Affairs. All proceeds from these activities go to the United Nations Emergency Response Fund HAITI

Additional ways to support this worthy cause include a text line which has been set- up and a banking account for direct donations. Text “HAITI” to 1990 from your mobile phone and donate GHc1.00 with each text. There is no limit to the number of texts that can be sent. In-kind donations of new clothes, blankets, shoes and non-perishable food can be made at the following collection points: Sunny FM, Springforth International School (Ajingano), Pricewise Specialty (North Dzorwulu), Adubea Coldstore (off Spintex Road near Coco-Cola Roundabout) and Y-FM (Silverbird Cinemas, Accra Mall).

A small group of Haitians, representative of the Association of Haitians Living in Ghana, will be transporting all in-kind donations directly to Haiti in a trip planned for later in the year.
