Stakeholders in Ghana’s movie industry on Friday held a tribute night to mourn and celebrate the life of late President John Evans Atta Mills at the premises of IPMC in Accra.
President John Evans Atta died on July 24 at the 37 Military Hospital, after he reportedly complained of throat pains. After his demise, newly sworn-in president John Mahama declared a two-week mourning period for the former president.
A lot of activities in the country have been postponed due to the president’s death while tributes keep coming in from in and outside the country.
Ghanaian movie makers including actors, director, producer and other important personalities converged on the IMPC premises to mourn the late president. Among them were David Dontoh, Fred Amugi, Grace Nortey, Doris Sackitey, Pascaline Edward, Nana Ama Mcbrown, Koo Ofori, Vivian Achor, Kojo Dadson, Emmanuel Armah, and Helen Asante.
The rest included Albert Jackson-Davis, Henry Harding, Ekow Smith Asante, Nii Odoi Mensah, Ken Fiati, Akorfa Ejeani Asiedu, Salma Mumin, Ella Mensah, Irene Opare, Diana Gbatey, Ben Kwadey and Eddie Owusu.
They sang hymns in honour of the president and read tributes in his memory. It was a colourful event except that most of the current faces in the movie industry were missing in action. Some of the absentee actors told News-One that they were not aware of such a ceremony.**
