Thu, 2 Mar 2006 Source: ghanamusic.com

Ghana Music Awards, for the past six years now has rooted itself well as one of the most important musical events in the Ghanaian annual social diary of every Ghanaian.

Now paraded as a major music award ceremony after KORA All Africa Music Awards and has now been transformed into a festival, it will be a four-day concert to celebrate musicians who excelled in the Ghanaian music industry.

Events for the festival starts today. It is expected to be happy a one as industry awards will be presented to artistes, record labels, producers, sound engineers and sponsors at the Golden Tulip Hotel. Dubbed 'Ghana Music Industry Awards And Highlife Night', on bill to perform are Kusum Gboo, Megastar Band, A. B. Crenstil, C. K. Mann and Paapa Yankson. The event will be recorded live and show at the public awards nite. A red-carpet treatment awaits patrons plus a sumptuous dinner.

A seminar (Ghana Music Awards Conference) was supposed to take place the following day at MUSIGA office having key speakers such as Kgopotso Leslie Sedibe, Chairman of the MTN South African Music Awards, a Legal and Business Affairs Director of EMI Music, MUSIGA and the Ministry of Tourism but was cancelled due to the low patronage of artistes in the previous years.

Day 2, is a day every one is waiting to attend or hear who won most and who lost awfully. The Public Awards Night event will be awarding artistes with amazing performances from Awilo Longomba, Blu 3, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Kwabena Kwabena, Praye, Lord Kenya, Ofori Amponsah, Batman and VIP featuring 2 face.

Day 3 falls on a Sunday and will be the biggest gospel show to rock Ghanaians after the Public Awards Night. Ghana Music Awards Gospelfest or Thanksgiving Celebrations will be having gospel musicians like Sammie Okposo, Noble Nketsiah, Tagoe Sisters, Kweku Gyasi, Esther Smith, Georgia Adjei, Commission Family, and other nominated gospel artistes passing through.

This is one beach jam show that tickets are going to be purchased more at a cheap rate of 40, 000 cedis only just to see Batman, Ofori Amponsah, Praye, Wutah, Kwabena Kwabena, Lucky Mensah, Mzbel, V.I.P., 4x4, and Nkasei on stage.

Of course, this being the Ghana Music Awards, there will be some completely unexpected moments or let me say surprises.

This year's Ghana Music Awards Festival is proudly sponsored by Areeba, Western Union Money Transfer, Unique Trust, Gulder, and supported by TV3, KPMG, Golden Tulip Hotel, Karrington and Joy FM.
