Ghana Music Awards Under Fire

They say public vote on songs will be largely influenced on what is played on radio and TV stations.

And this could exclude music which have not enjoyed airplay not because the music is not good but simply because the producer does not have the resources to adequately advertise the music.

Joseph Asafo Boachie, a music producer, questioned the scientific basis of knowing which song enjoyed the highest airplay

Mr. Asafo-Boachie believes a committee of experts in Ghanaian music should be set up to draw up a better criteria and also devised a more credible method of arriving at the winners of the Ghana Music Awards.

While the organizer, Charter House, does not disagree with the argument being advanced by their critics, they say the Ghana Music Awards is a people?s choice award.

The critics of the music award say the decision to raise these concerns is to prevent a situation where people will cry foul after the event as happened last year.
