Obour revealed that they encouraged musicians not to charge their commercial rate
President for the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGHA), Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour has justified why the Ghana Music Week recorded a low turn-out.
According to him, they were affected by various challenges including financial and organizational.
The late start of the event he indicated also caused the low turn-out. The original time for the event was 6pm but we started around check around 10pm and by that time, many had gone back home.
‘’We had a late start yesterday [Friday] and so we asked the musicians not to perform. We took the decision because we wanted them to perform today [Saturday.’’ Speaking on GH Entertainment on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said, we would have done a great job if we had enough financial support and time.
He said government has so far allocated an amount of GHc 150, 000 for the Ghana Music Week despite budgeting for GHc 800, 000.
Obour revealed that they encouraged musicians not to charge their commercial rate as part of their contribution towards the celebration but ‘’unfortunately we could not receive any support from corporate Ghana.
We encouraged some of the musicians to sacrifice.’’ He added we used social media to advertise because we had little for mainstream publicity. Ghana music week trended on social media.
We did our best and managed what we had to organize this event. The event will definitely suffer because we did not have the means [money].
We had a poor start but we have not failed, he added when asked if they failed to organize a good show.
He said its being a difficult event.
This is a national event and in the heat of the event, we [MUSIGHA] had to take drastic decision to ensure that the event will go on.
