A contestant who emerged as a first runner up of TV3 reality show 'Ghana's Most Beautiful Season VIII 2014 edition, Ms. Solace Ewoenam Ekpedzor has launched her rice brand project in Accra.
The brand launch which was supported by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and Mensvic Grand Hotel was christened 'Ewoe Organic Brown Rice' and was aimed at promoting locally made produce.
According to Ms. Ewoe, her decision to champion this course was geared towards encouraging Ghanaians especially the youth to accept and consume locally cultivated produce in their homes.
She added that, her move will also help to improve the local economy of rice growing communities across Ghana as well as introduce and encourage young entrepreneurs to venture into rice farming to help ease the unemployment among the youth.
The beauty queen indicated that the brand name "Ewoe Organic Brown Rice' is processed under hygienic and high-tech conditions which is adopted not only to make the brand attractive to consumers but also maintain the high nutritional and fiber content of the local brown rice compared to varieties currently on the market.
She urged Ghanaians especially the youth to patronize locally made-in-Ghana goods and services especially her Brown Organic Rice for healthy lifestyle and to boost the local economy.
With the successful launch of Ewoe Organic Brown Rice, consumers can now purchase it in 5kg bags at their nearest supermarkets.
Ms. Ewoe expressed the optimism that her brand will help reduce Ghana's dependency on importation of foreign rice and achieve her vision of food sufficiency for every household in Ghana through local brown rice production and consumption.
The ceremony was attended by Ministers of State including the Hon. Deputy Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Bernice Adiku Heloo (M.P), the Deputy Minister of Petroleum, Hon Benjamin Dagadu, Members of the board of Agricultural Development Bank including the Board Chairman, Nana Soglo Alloh IV and other distinguished guests.
Ewoe represented the Volta region in Ghana Most Beautiful Season VIII in 2014 and was the first representative of the Volta region who came from the Guan area of the region.
Her project work during the competition was to promote the consumption of local brown rice and after the competition,she did a market survey on the viability and sustainability of the project.
