For his over a decade of experience in media and his immense contributions to the industry in diverse ways, Abrantepa, known in private life as Benefo Buabeng, has been nominated in the Excellence in Media Industry category of the 13th edition of the Mega 3G Media Awards.
The GhanaWeb editor, according to a communication from 3G Media Group LLC, organizers of the scheme which has been in operation since its maiden edition in 2009, was nominated after careful consideration of his contributions to the industry.
"3G Media recognizes your impressive career as a Ghanaian Multimedia Journalist over a decade," read a letter signed by the founder and CEO, Dr. Charles N. Ntiamoah-Mensah, announcing the nomination of the journalist.
The event is expected to be held on October 5, 2024, at the Ukrainian Youth Center, 301 Palisade Ave, Yonkers, NY 10703, United States. Dubbed "A Night of Heroes," it will recognize the sacrifice and dedication of unsung heroes in various sectors, including Entertainment, Tourism, Media, Public/Security Service, Business, and Politics.
The scheme is endorsed by many prominent personalities, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyemang; UN Special Envoy, Dr. Devon Bannister; and the Ghana Journalists Association’s president, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour.
About 'Abrantepa' Benefo Buabeng:
Benefo Buabeng is a Ghanaian multimedia journalist. For over a decade now, he has worked in various capacities across multiple domains in broadcasting and digital journalism with overlapping duties in public relations, brand management, events promotion.
He holds a Master of Arts in Brands and Communications Management from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana. Affectionately called Abrantepa, he combines creatively written, and oral skills to produce compelling media products for his audience.
His ambidexterity, as regards multiple media domains, accounts for his versatile journey from a student journalist trained in the art of radio production and broadcasting at the University of Ghana campus-based Radio Univers, to Editor at the most influential digital media organization in Ghana, GhanaWeb.
Abrantepa started modestly as a reporter at the oldest university radio station in Ghana in 2011 and rose through the ranks to become lead producer, anchor, and editor of several high-profile shows on the Radio Univers platform, consolidating his position as a formidable broadcaster.
In recognition of his industriousness, he was adjudged Radio Univers Personality of the Year 2013 at the University of Ghana Community Excellence Awards.
In his final years at the University of Ghana, he started and managed a digital news platform (Abrantepa.com) dedicated to curating Ghanaian entertainment and pop culture, thus, transitioning him further into commercial new media journalism. In this space, he worked with big digital media brands like PulseGH as Entertainment Editor and currently serves as Editor at GhanaWeb.
As a publicist and media consultant, Abrantepa has managed many creative brands and personalities. He is also a two-time Academy Member of the 3Music Awards.
