** *History of The Ghanaian Association of Carpenter Avenue*
It was formed due to the sudden death of our brother and a husband.
The deceased was a tenant at one of the twin buildings on Carpenter Avenue.
The Ghanaian residents of those two buildings donated $200 each to finalize
the funeral and sent the body to Ghana for burial and helped out the widow.
After the funeral arrangements had been made, Mr. Yaw Sarfo who is the
family member of the deceased congratulated the tenants and advised them to
unite because they had done what Napoleon could not do. Therefore with the
little money left they decided to form an association.
All the tenant supported the idea of forming the association to help
themselves
Aims are as follows.
1. To foster good relationship and brotherhood among Ghanaians living on
Carpenter Avenue and New York City.
2. To provide moral and financial support to Members.
3. To promote unity, love and understanding among members.
4. Provide a forum to discuss matters of mutual interest and concern to the
members and decide concerted action.
They named the association; Carpenter Aveue, because the person through whom
the association was formed was living at Carpenter Avenue. That does not
mean only people living at Carpenter Avenue can be members. Everybody is
welcome to join as long as you are interested and from Ghana. If you want
more information about the Association please contact the Secretary
(Eddie) on 917 847 6292 or the P.R.O (Kwabena) 914 316 2457.
