Ghanaian cinematographer, Kwame Bob Johnson Dies In a Motor Accident

It is disheartening that most of the strong personalities that handle the essential parts of the creative work (behind the camera) of our Ghanaian movies and other productions go without being noticed.

Without the hand work of people like Kwame Bob Johnson popularly known as Bob J, we would not have enjoyed the creative excellence and the superb lighting that we witnessed in most of the award winning Ghanaian movies.

GhanaCelebrities.Com has been officially notified that, Bob J has passed away. Bob, a professional biker met his untimely death on Sunday morning in a motor bike accident.

Bob has worked on some of the greatest movies to have come out of the Ghanaian movie industry. He was the lighting consultant for “Scorned”, “Perfect Picture”, and was also the director of photography for “A Sting In A Tale”, “CheckMate” and “6 Hours To Christmas”.

Bob’s work was not restricted to the camp of Sparrow Productions. He worked as the director of photography for KSM’s “Double”, Kwaw Ansah’s “The Good Old Days” and Abdul Sallam’s yet to be released “4 Play Reloaded”.

Apart from the above mentioned movies, Bob J’s creative prowess extended to several brilliant TV Commercials and Documentaries both home and abroad. Bob was an old student of Nafti and worked on many international productions in London and the United States.

He will be dearly missed by all, those behind and in front of the camera. Bob J has been nominated in the category of Best Cinematography for his work in “CheckMate” and “A Sting In A Tale” for the upcoming Ghana Movie Awards. It is sad he did not live to see this day. Bob’s death has shocked and wounded the hearts of many in the Ghana Movie Industry.

Ace Director/Scriptwriter Ms. Shirley Frimpong Manso who has worked with Bob several times is totally heartbroken and told GhanaCelebrities.Com, “Bob was meticulous, professional, creative, strong, a pillar of reliability and above all a big brother and this can be attested by all those who had the privilege to work with him. He was full of life and Great Spirit on and off set; it will never be the same without him.”
