Ghanaians have been advised to participate in the 2005 PANAFEST celebrations and perceive it as a cultural event dedicated to the enhancement of the ideals of Pan Africanism and the development of the African continent.

The sentiments were expressed by Kojo Yankah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PANAFEST, at a press briefing to make the Media aware of the progress made so far by the PANAFEST Foundation towards the 2005 celebration.

?Over the years, the participation of Ghanaians have not been encouraging, but as the only sustained Pan African festival, there is the need for Ghanaians and the rest of the African race to participate fully in it,? he said.

The main thrust of PANAFEST, as designed by Efua Sutherland, since its inception, was to bring people of African decent together? for the betterment of the black race.

Mr Yankah noted that whatever affected the black race at one location affected all, hence the general theme for the 2005 PANAFEST celebration, which is ?The Re-emergence of African Civilisation? with the festival theme being ?Preserving and Uniting the African Family ? the Fight Against HIV/AIDS?.
