Miss Universe Ghana 2017 Ruth Quashie has blamed her inability to win the crown at the global stage on lack of votes. According to the beauty queen, there was not enough support from her home country in terms of votes to push her closer to the crown.

Ruth Quashie, who was speaking on Urban Blend on 3FM 92.7, said despite her team’s work on creating visibility for her on most media platforms, Ghanaians failed to vote.

“Prior to leaving Ghana, we were on most television and radio stations. We had Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, and that is how news usually flies in Ghana,” she said “so I was surprised that when things were put out there, Ghanaians said they did not see it.” She also accused Ghanaians of being selective of what they support.

According to Ruth, on the day of the grand finale of the world contest, enough votes did not come through for her. She revealed that only two Ghanaians in the person of celebrity blogger Ameyaw Debrah and organizer of Miss Universe Ghana Menaye Donkor were present at the auditorium in Las Vegas.

She also mentioned that her stylist and blogger were denied visas to join her at the competition. This is the first time Ghana took part in Miss Universe after 13 years. Ruth Quashie made it to the Top 16 but missed out on the ultimate.

She was among the 92 finalists at this year’s global pageant held at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The 23-year-old University of Ghana graduate was one of the two African representatives to make the Top 16. The crown was won by South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
