Musicals are quite new to Ghanaians yet Okyeame Kwame’s Versatile Show has captured the hearts and minds of the audience who attended not only the first show in November but the Beggar’s Replay on Sunday December 21, 2014.

The second edition of the show which was by special request had hundreds of people clamoring to be a part of the musical experience at the National Theatre.

The three-hour show had a brilliant opening with Okyeame Kwame in military gear descending from the sky onto a dance scene on the stage as dancers from the Noyam Dance Group helped him off the supporting rope in a well-choreographed act.

The singing started right from there as OK’s Mr. Versatile went loud through the speakers of the auditorium with the soothing support of Stars of the Future’s Season Two winner, Adina.

The concept of the Versatile Show Beggar’s Replay is a repeat of the previous one revolving around the Politician, played by Ecow Smith-Asante, the Pimp, played by Okyeame Kwame, the Policeman, played by Roland Adom, the Pastor, played by Obrempong Agyapong and then the Prostitute, played by Pearl Darkey.

The musical explained the intricacies of survival in life from the bottom up starting with Okyeame Kwame’s desperation in making it in the music industry thereby becoming a pimp to survive.

Comedy was rife in the musical especially from the roles played by the Pastor, Obrempong Agyapong, his interpreter, Robert Nana Kodua and the Beggars played by Ben Kwadey and Adjetey Annan.

There was another special appearance by magician, Professor Von Cujovi who thrilled the audience with fire and milk tricks and the magical disappearance of a volunteer.

Dance by the Noyam Dance Group induced energy into the musical as the audience were given a slice of almost all dances including Ballet, Azonto, Acrobatic and traditional dances.

The stage craft was evidently well rehearsed as the end product was superb with well-synchronized complements of lighting, sound and set.

The Versatile Show Beggars Replay ended with satisfaction glaring through the faces of the audience as they applauded the cast who bowed in appreciation.

Okyeame Kwame took the opportunity to express gratitude to sponsors and supporters of the Versatile Show and promised to replicate the show nationwide starting from Kumasi.

Some member of the audience GhanaWeb spoke to called for more of such shows to give a spice to the Ghanaian entertainment industry.
