Scientific, a Liberian rapper who was hosted on the XFM’s WONABEE show by Thompson CD Nortey says, “Ghanaians do not acknowledge serious tracks but rather treasure gimmicks”. According to him, “Azonto has made a lot of hip hop artistes lazy resulting in the production of lots of whack songs”.
He says Ghanaians are only interested in AZONTO music and therefore artistes are compelled to produce such music since its selling like hot cake and it’s the new trend.
Scientific added that the preference for Azonto music is the reason why some artistes in Ghana are not producing serious songs.
He also blames poor quality music on the lack of foresight by some artistes adding that “they are limited to their horizon”.
The “Groove On” hit maker emphasized that Azonto music isn’t bad since it has gained much eminence both home and across the borders within these few years but Ghanaian artistes are not astute enough to sustain it and the Nigerians have adopted it now.
He further lamented on the lack of investment in the music industry in Ghana.
“Ghanaians have better emcees and dope hip hop artistes but is just that the Nigerians have the money to promote their artistes”.
He sailed through his past, talking about his early beginnings with rap and some of the tracks he had produced with fellow Ghanaian artistes like Castro, Trigmatic, and Irene Logan which were top tunes.
Scientific believes there are numerous imminent hip hop artistes in Ghana who when given the opportunity to exhibit their talents can rise to implausible heights in the world of music.
Asked if his parents are in support of his music career. He retorted “my parents are wholly in support of my music career due to the rapid progression of music sales in the world”.
Scientific acknowledges God as his sole guardian in all his endeavours as a musician.
