In innocently obeying the advice of a self-employed adult who repeatedly defiled her, an eight-year-old girl has exposed their criminal affair and landed her defiler in jail.

After the second defilement in two days, Samuel Akuffo a 28-year-old petty trader, gave the little girl ?10,000.00 and told her to buy panties for herself.

Three days later the girl went into a shop to buy panties. The shop owner who became suspicious asked her where she got the ?10,000.

With persistent questioning she named Samuel Akuffo, alias Brother Kwasi, who stays in their neighbourhood, as the one who gave her the money after having had sex with her. A report was subsequently made to the Nungua Police who issued the girl with a medical form the report on which confirmed that she had indeed been defiled (raped).

Brother Kwasi was then arrested and the case referred to WAJU, but the accused in his caution statement denied the crime.

Giving the facts of the case to Mr. P.K. Aggrey of the Accra Circuit Court, Inspector E.T. Boison said that the victim lived with her mother at Nungua.

On November 24, last year at about 2pm, the victim was on her way home with her younger brother when they met Brother Kwasi, who held the victim's hand.

The accused took the victim to his room and forcibly had sex with her while the little brother waited outside.

Afterwards, the accused gave the girl ?2,000 and warned her not to tell anybody because if she did she would die, the prosecutor noted.

The following day at 1.30pm, the victim was going to buy a doll for a friend when the accused met her, took her home and again sexually assaulted her.

This time, the accused gave the victim ?10,000 to buy panties, the prosecutor said. According to Inspector Boison three days later on November 28, the victim went to buy three panties with the money but the shop owner became suspicious and asked the victim where she got the money from.

Mr. Aggrey remanded the accused in custody to assist with police investigation
