Ghanaian musician and advocate Big Joe has called on the government to prioritize the needs of the citizens rather than imposing its own policies on the citizenry.

In an interview with Accra-based 3FM, Big Joe expressed concern that politicians often fail to bring about meaningful changes after winning elections.

He says this is due to a disconnect between the central government and local communities.

He blamed the economic hardships and social challenges faced by Ghanaians on the government's insensitivity to the people's needs.

"The message is simple: we are suffering, so we should shine our eyes. When we are hungry and need bread, they give us butter; when we are thirsty, they give us beer.

“Give us what we want and not what you want. The central government should not be deciding for our lives. We live in our communities and better know and understand our challenges and needs,” he said.

Big Joe emphasized that projects targeted at local communities would receive stronger support from the people, as they would view these initiatives as their own.

He argued that such localized projects would ensure continuity even if there is a change in government, as the community would push for their completion regardless of which party is in power.

"When there is a change of government, the locals will see to it that the new government continues the project, which will not be too difficult because the credit would go to everyone," he explained.
