The third edition of the Glitz Style Awards which celebrates individuals setting trends and defying the odds with their Fashion style comes off Saturday, August 19, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Ahead of the grand event, organisers of the lifestyle event threw a pre-party to initiate patrons into what to expect in 2017. The event was hosted by GhOne television and Live FM presenters, Regina Krave and Jason El-A.
Notable faces spotted by GhanaWeb.com on Saturday eve included Victoria Lebene, John Dumelo, Kalybos, Eli Kharis, Adomaa, KOD and Nathaniel Attoh among others.
The event which has relentlessly been lauded for honouring fashion and style in Ghana has also received a lot of bashing with critics labelling the awards as a biased one.
According to critics, the Awards is skewed towards few industries to the detriment of the other sectors. Others also said the scope of personality nomination is limited, advocating for an open system.
On the back of these claims, the Chief Executive Officer of Glitz Africa, Claudia Lumor has disputed talks that the Glitz Style Awards is biased towards certain industries.
According to Mrs Lumor in an interview with Joy News, the Style Awards was instituted to honour reputed brands and it is targeted at markets beyond clothing and fashion industry.
“It is an award, people have different views, different comments. People are very passionate about these things because they have fans, they want to see them there, so when they do not get nominated then people are disappointed,” she said.
“We are not just going to put people in a category because of numbers. This is about brand, it is not even just about clothes. It is about people who put their looks together, they respect their brands, their image, reputation not clothes. We are telling Africa, when it comes to Ghana, our TV, Radio, Media, this are the people,” she noted.
Speaking to the host, Regina Krave and sports Journalist Nathaniel Attoh at the Vintage-themed pre-party, both media personalities were of the view that the awards scheme which is in its third session has proven fruitful to the lifestyle industry and as such, should be embraced extensively notwithstanding the controversies surrounding it.
They reiterated that it is an awards event and certainly there should be the expectancy of divergent views from admirers of the scheme.
The On-Air personalities who spoke to ghanaweb.com exclusively also shared their views about the event, how it has evolved over the last two years and their expectations towards the third edition slated for August, 19.
