A new television comedy drama series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by Glo, will start airing in Ghana from tomorrow, August 13. The series has become an instant hit in Nigeria. It promises to be an exciting time of fun, laughter and entertainment for viewers across the country.
The series, which will be shown on UTV, is scheduled to air from 7.30pm to 8.00pm on Saturdays.
The drama series features popular Nigerian actors, including Kanayo O. Kanayo (Professor Johnbull), Mercy Johnson-Okogie, Mama G, Helen Paul, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Ime Bishop Okon, Queen Nwokoye, Junior Pope, Funky Mallam, Bimbo Akintola, Bidemi Kosoko, Chiwetalu Agu, O.C. Ukeje, Bovi, among others. Many of them are also household names in Ghana entertainment firmament.
Professor Johnbull has, from the beginning, developed a reputation for high sounding and weighty grammar and usually laces his words with high faulting expressions. Viewers across Ghana will quickly warm towards Kanayo O. Kanayo and a host of other screen stars.
This week’s episode tagged Foreign Petrol is riveting as it mirrors how a few individuals, consumed by avarice, attempt to capitalise on prevailing severe economic situation made worse by fuel scarcity, to enrich themselves to the detriment of the generality of the people.
The economic challenge affects everybody, including the shylock hotelier, Etuk, acted by Ime Bishop, who in his desperation, sits in front of his hotel to make a "public service announcement", hoping that by continuously ringing a bell, he can draw customers to the hotel.
Flash (Stephen Odimgba), in a bid to get-rich-quickly, becomes an emergency "black marketer". Will the long arms of the law catch up with Flash. Who squealed on Flash? What role did Churchill, the moralistic son of Professor Johnbull play in all these? What is car pooling and why is Professor Johnbull recommending it to his "proximate people?" Viewers will find the answers to all these and more in the episode.
Viewers will also be amused to find out that Professor Johnbull's bombastic expressions is rubbing off on some of his proximate neighbours like Mai Doya (Funky Mallam).
Globacom, in a statement issued during the week, said that viewers across Ghana "will see Professor Johnbull, acted by Kanayo O. Kanayo, in his best element of elocution as he elucidates on the dangers of "Black Marketing" and proffers pragmatic solutions."
The sound track for the drama was rendered by high-life super star, Flavour with Twi infusions.
