The audience at the Madina District Court were shocked on Friday January 17 when a hapless accused, David Keema (23), charged with stealing was left off the hook, minutes before he was to be sentenced.
Kuma, who had consistently denied any knowledge of the theft for which he had been arraigned, was reprieved by the sudden appearance in court of the actual thief, Lincoln Tetteh (24) who had mysteriously come to surrender himself for justice to take its natural course.
The fortunate Kuma, who went into a state pf euphoria and could not control his joy shouted ''God, your will be done.''
David Kuma, a student was detained for six days pending investigations before he was finally discharged for lack of prosecution.
The real accused person, Lincoln Tetteh and two others, now at large, forcibly removed a gold chain from the neck of the complainant.
But the complainant mistook Kuma for Tetteh and lodged a complaint against him. All efforts by Kuma to prove his innocence proved futile until Tetteh walked into the court room and accepted responsibility for the theft. He told the court that Kuma was not part of the gang. Upon his own admission of the offence, the court sentenced Lincoln Tetteh to 12 months imprisonment.
