Golden Theatre Festival in 2007

Accra July 2, GNA - A Golden Theatre Festival is scheduled to take place in March 2007 to transform theatre production in Ghana and make it a lucrative form of business as pertains in other countries.

Captain Nkrabea Effah Darteh (rtd), Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, announced this at the launch of the festival, which would be part of Ghana's a 50th independence anniversary celebration.

Captain Effah Darteh, who is also the President of the Ghana Union of Actors, said scripts or productions from Ghanaians would be received within six months.

A committee made up of lecturers from the School of Performing Arts, Legon, would assess the scripts and bring out results before March 2005. The top most production would be rewarded.
Captain Effah Darteh said theatre production had suffered a lot of setbacks in Ghana and he expressed the hope that the festival would help redeem the image of theatre.
