My Sunday fufu was unreasonably long in coming this weekend. Frequent trips to the kitchen did not really help, only got me stern looks from my sweet mother. I was asked to go sit down and count out loud to 50. By this time my groans were becoming as recurrent as Michael Essien’s knee injury. Some United fans were trying (in vain though) to get me to say whether the penalty decision against them was justified. Frankly, I have no sympathy for United whatsoever.
I was more worried about the fact that I had to support Liverpool against City. This was a selfless and painful act. I was kicking and heading every ball. I am sure I was not alone. The City keeper just won’t be beaten despite that idiot Balotelli handing Liverpool the initiative. At the end of the game, we were all asking why always him and not Hart. At least City didn’t win keeping them in touching distance of the rest of the chasing pack. Now I had decided to hold off talking about the Champions League until we got to the knockout stage.
But I couldn’t help but notice the perilous situation the English teams find themselves after the penultimate round of games. Whiles Barcelona and Milan once again reminded us just how beautiful European football is, Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs are on the verge of making an appearance in the ‘PRESTIGIOUS’ Europa League. For Chelsea it’s probably not a bad thing, their coach gets a chance to defend the title he won last year. “Yea, eat that United fans!!!” Pathetic. A rare defeat for Barcelona meant that It’s shaping up to be another title in yet another league for Mourinho. Hmm…that Special Man.
So I heard last week GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi took a trip to Milan to see want away KP Boateng. Well I wouldn’t know because I was already in Milan myself. I had a little mission of my own, to hand deliver a 3 page typed letter to KP. Don’t worry folks, I got in a good word for you lot. This is what I said to him. I simply said KP you are a fantastic player and we need you. Hold on, I know. Before you tear me apart, just hear me out.
Now am not saying we should go and beg him. Ok maybe a little (in my opinion) but truth is we need him or the very least, another player like him. I am aware of the many plausible arguments many of you will put out there. We have a great team even without him. Yes he is an opportunist, a traitor and an ungrateful bast**d, no doubt. But we need the goals. The things said about him are his personality traits. It has nothing to do with what this guy does on the field. If anyone can point me to one Ghanaian player anywhere on this planet right now who is scoring the kind of goals this guy’s scoring, I’d shut up immediately. Honestly, I don’t even know why KP is a midfielder.
So he may want to happily “speed” off into the sunset (with Milan) after having fulfilled his personal ambitions with Ghana. He may have taken us for fools having come out with that idiotic explanation for an excuse. But he is world class, a real peach of player and the Black Stars is a bigger threat with him in our ranks. If anybody doubts this, just watch that goal against Barcelona again, and again, and again, an…d again.
Well I hope he got my letter. Patiently waiting for a reply, though it feels like am wearing Speedos right now, really sad day in football. Heart goes out to all football fans. RIP Gary Speed, Newcastle legend.
