What began as a mild misunderstanding between two tenants has resulted in a third party losing her left eye. Madam Dangoe Azumah, 47, was said to have attempted to prevent Atsitso Dzokoto, 18, from beating her daughter.
Instead Atsitso turned on her and gave her a blow in the eye resulting in her predicament. Atsitso has been arraigned before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court on a charge of causing damage to the left eye of Madam Azumah resulting in her wearing spectacles. He pleaded guilty with explanation.
The court however ordered Atsitso to compensate Madam Azumah with ?1.5 million in the interim, adding that Madam Azumah may later take legal action to claim damages from Atsitso. The prosecutor, Inspector Comfort Darko, told the court that Madam Azumah is a farmer and wife of Atsitso?s uncle and that they all live at Akpeteshie Camp, near Bawjiase in the Central Region.
On May 10, this year, Atsitso was sent by his uncle to go and purchase soap and other items from Bawjiase for him. On his return, one of Madam Azumah?s daughters started insulting Atsitso.Madam Azumah reprimanded her daughter for her insulting behaviour and asked to know what had occasioned her daughter?s attitude towards him.
The prosecutor said, thereafter, Madam Azumah?s daughter started narrating what had happened when suddenly Atsitso slapped her. Madam Azumah held Atsitso?s hand in a bid to prevent him from beating the girl. But to her surprise, Atsitso turned on her and dealt her a blow on the eye.
Madam Azumah bled profusely as a result and was rushed to a clinic at Bawjiase from where she was referred to the Breman Asikuma Catholic Hospital for further treatment.
