Versatile Ghanaian musician, Choirmaster, has indicated that artistes who compose good songs with great content and impeccable production do not need to bribe music players to promote their songs, because good music sells itself.
According to the Hook Me Up singer, his songs promote themselves through his hard work, top notch production and the harmonious relationship he has created with disc jockeys.
“Since I started my solo project, I’ve never paid payola. My music promotes itself. The DJ is a human being, so when a song is good, he or she automatically adds it to their playlist. Good music therefore pays the payola here once Djs fall in love with such songs unconsciously,” Choirmaster said.
He however added that artistes should not wait till they release songs before they show some appreciation to selfless DJs who play their songs out of mere love for the development of Ghana’s music industry.
“We musicians ought to appreciate DJs from time to time for all the love they show us. Don’t wait till you release a song before you do this. Develop a cordial relationship with them,” he stated.
Choirmaster further urged his colleague musicians to do good music, rather than chase music players all over the place with payola in the quest to have their songs aired.
